You’re always on time to meetings and a co-worker is almost always late. Don’t get upset, get personality-wise, then you will know that different personalities make great business partners.
Linda Gilden and I (Linda Goldfarb), are complete opposites according to our personalities. Linda is an Organizer/Stabilizer blend and I’m a Mobilizer/Socializer. Yet, we work wonderfully together.
How can opposite or different personalities make great business partners, you might ask? By being intentional with our words, expectations, and actions. Let me explain.
The Business of Intentional Words for Different Personalities
As a Mobilizer/Socializer, my tendency is to do everything quickly, especially talking, while my business partner is more purposed and likes to take her time making and voicing her decisions.
Therefore, I make an intentional choice to slow down when I speak, listen longer when she speaks, without tapping my foot to speed her up. In turn, Linda gives me grace when I get verbally excited about a project expressing my emotions with enthusiasm. Ha, ha, which means, she doesn’t roll her eyes at me as much as other people do. It’s great to be understood.
